Cuban Burrowing Cockroach
Byrsotria fumigata
The Cuban burrowing cockroach is a stout Caribbean roach maintained in specialist colonies. Females are large and short-winged, while males can have either long or short wings. Adults are brown with a broad head shield, and much of the female's segmented abdomen remains exposed. Colonies need digging substrate, sheltered retreats, ventilation and varied food. Females retain their egg cases and release live nymphs. Its compact shape differs from the flatter, long-winged Blaberus.
