Tiger Bromeliad Spider
Cupiennius salei
The tiger bromeliad spider is an active hunter from Mexico, Central America and Hispaniola. Adults are brown above with darker leg markings. Females have red-orange areas beside a black stripe under the abdomen; males lack those red areas. It hunts without a prey-catching web and shelters among broad leaves.
Specialist keepers provide secure, ventilated climbing space, foliage retreats, moisture and suitable insects. Avoid handling this fast spider. Females lay eggs and carry the silk sac attached to the spinnerets.
