Giant Dwarf Tarantula
Cyriocosmus giganteus
The giant dwarf tarantula is a Peruvian Amazon species in the small-bodied genus Cyriocosmus. Adult females have a bronze carapace, black upper legs, brown outer leg segments and a pale central patch on an otherwise black abdomen. The bronze carapace contrasts with the dark carapace of C. aueri, and neither has the lateral abdominal stripes of several relatives. Tarantula hobbyists keep it singly with diggable substrate, a secure retreat and water. Avoid handling and defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
