Peruvian Black and White Dwarf Tarantula
Cyriocosmus ritae
The Peruvian black and white dwarf tarantula occurs in Peru and Brazil. Adult females have a golden reddish-brown carapace with a dark oval head patch, dark legs with pale rear knees, and a black abdomen with a long reddish central patch and pale lateral markings. It lacks the seven dark radial carapace spots of C.
leetzi. Specialist hobbyists keep it singly with a secure, ventilated enclosure, bark retreats and water. Wild animals use roots and tree cavities as refuges. Avoid handling and defensive hairs. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
