Desertas Wolf Spider

Hogna ingens

The Desertas wolf spider is a large, stocky gray spider with boldly banded black-and-white legs. It is restricted to the Vale da Castanheira on Deserta Grande in the Madeira archipelago and is maintained in zoo conservation breeding programs. EAZA guidance calls for sheltered, ventilated housing with burrow-supporting soil, moisture and suitable insect prey. Avoid handling. Females carry a silk egg sac, and newly hatched spiderlings ride on their mother's back before dispersing.

Colors: Wild Type
