Blood Red Curtain Web Spider
Diplura sanguinea
The blood red curtain web spider is a web-building spider recorded from Colombia and Brazil. Adults have a reddish carapace and four pairs of broad pale stripes on a black abdomen. It belongs to Dipluridae, rather than the tarantula family, and its long spinnerets help build a sheet web leading to a retreat.
Experienced keepers provide a secure, ventilated enclosure with substrate, shelter and anchoring surfaces for silk. Offer appropriately sized insects and water, and avoid disturbing its web or handling it. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
