Greyhound

A greyhound is a tall, smooth-coated sighthound selected to spot game and sprint after it at great speed. The modern dog appears in racing, coursing, show, and companion lines, but the outline is consistent: deep chest, tucked waist, long legs, narrow head, and thin skin over lean muscle. Greyhounds come in many colors and patterns, including black, blue, fawn, brindle, white, and mixed markings.

Many retired racing greyhounds adapt well to home life, though they may need time to learn stairs, windows, household noises, and life with smaller animals. They are usually sprinters rather than endurance athletes, so safe fenced runs and regular leash walks matter more than miles of jogging. A strong chase instinct makes off-leash freedom risky outside enclosed areas. Their low body fat calls for soft bedding, winter coats in cold climates, and veterinary teams familiar with sighthound anesthesia. Dental care, nail maintenance, parasite prevention, and monitoring for bloat or corn problems are practical parts of greyhound ownership.
