Mudi

The Mudi is a Hungarian herding dog developed around sheep and cattle work in the same pastoral world that produced the Puli and Pumi. It is usually medium sized, quick on its feet, and recognizable by its wedge-shaped head, upright ears, and wavy to curly coat. Black is common, but brown, white, fawn, ash, and merle lines are also seen depending on registry and country. The breed is valued for fast reactions, problem solving, and a sharp awareness of stock, people, and movement around it.

In homes and on farms, a Mudi tends to suit people who want a busy, trainable dog rather than a decorative companion. It can excel in herding, agility, scent work, obedience, and active rural life, but it usually needs thoughtful socialization so alertness does not turn into needless suspicion or noise. Coat care is moderate, with regular brushing and attention to working-dog wear on feet, teeth, and joints. Buyers should look for breeders who understand both temperament and health testing, especially in merle lines.
