Whoodle

The Whoodle is an informal name for a cross between a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Poodle, usually a miniature or standard Poodle depending on the size a breeder wants. Because it is a mixed-breed dog rather than a fixed breed with a long-closed studbook, Whoodles can vary widely in height, coat texture, color, muzzle length, and temperament. Many have a wavy or curly coat and a cheerful, busy outlook, but the terrier side may bring digging, chasing, and a stubborn streak, while the Poodle side often adds quick learning and sensitivity.

People considering a Whoodle should look past labels such as non-shedding or hypoallergenic, since coat and allergy response are never guaranteed. Most need professional grooming every few weeks, regular ear care, and early training that rewards calm behavior around visitors and other dogs. A responsible breeder should explain which generation the litter is, show health testing on the Wheaten and Poodle parents, and discuss concerns such as hip disease, eye disorders, patellar issues, Addison's disease, and Wheaten-associated protein-losing conditions. Rescue Whoodles and similar Poodle-terrier mixes can also make good companions when their exercise needs and grooming costs are understood.
