Okefenokee Fishing Spider
Dolomedes okefinokensis
The Okefenokee fishing spider is a large, long-legged spider from Florida and southern Georgia. Its brown or gray body has dark W-shaped abdominal marks partly edged in white, and brown-and-black banded legs. It resembles the dark fishing spider, so locality and close examination matter.
Specialist keepers provide secure, ventilated housing with water, firm resting surfaces and sheltered land areas. Seek species-specific husbandry advice and avoid handling. Females lay eggs in a silk sac and guard the young in a nursery web.
