Dorcas Gazelle
Gazella dorcas
A small gazelle of North African deserts and nearby arid country, with pale ochre fur, a white belly, flank markings and curved ringed horns. Zoo hoofstock teams maintain herds with open grazing space and sheltered areas. Females give birth to live calves. US ESA endangered status applies to named subspecies massaesyla, pelzelni and saudiya, rather than every dorcas gazelle. The current MDD includes those regional forms within Gazella dorcas.
