Forest Duck
The Forest duck is a thinly documented domestic duck label, used in some breed lists for a regional or heritage type rather than a widely recognized commercial breed. It should not be confused with wild forest ducks or perching ducks; in poultry use it refers to mallard-derived domestic ducks. Available descriptions tend to place it among small or medium farm ducks kept for utility and exhibition, but color, size, and standard wording vary by source and country.
For keepers, the practical issue is verification. Anyone buying Forest ducks should ask the breeder what standard or strain they are using, how large the adults become, and whether the birds breed true in color and body type. Management is otherwise the same as for hardy domestic ducks: safe housing at night, access to clean water for bathing and bill cleaning, and enough space to forage without fouling a small pen. If the name is being used for a rare local line, keeping notes on parentage and exchanging unrelated birds can matter more than show markings.
