Dune Scorpion
Smeringurus mesaensis
The dune scorpion is a pale, sandy-colored species from desert areas of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. It hunts at night and digs shallow retreats in loose sand; faint darker back markings vary among populations. Hobbyists keep it as a solitary desert display animal. Provide a secure enclosure with a sand-based digging substrate, shelter and a water source, rather than a damp forest setup. Avoid handling and disturbance of its burrow. Females give birth to live young.
