Egyptian Cockroach
Polyphaga aegyptiaca
The Egyptian cockroach is a slow-growing sand roach from North Africa and nearby dry regions. Females are broad, squat and wingless, while males have long, textured wings. Specialist keepers provide a deep burrowing substrate, leaf cover and a moisture gradient appropriate to an arid-land species. Females produce egg cases over an extended adult life. Wingless females resemble some Arenivaga, so sex, origin and breeding history are useful alongside appearance.
