Eresus walckenaeri
Eresus walckenaeri
Eresus walckenaeri is a velvet spider from the Mediterranean region. Adult males have a conspicuous red abdomen with black spots, while larger females are mostly black and may have a red band around the front and sides of the abdomen. Similar Eresus species require careful identification, so retain breeder and locality records.
Hobby keepers provide a secure, well-ventilated enclosure with dry substrate, sheltered silk-retreat sites and web anchors. Feed appropriately sized insects and avoid handling. Females lay eggs in silk sacs.
