Stout Leg Baboon Tarantula
Eucratoscelus pachypus
The stout leg baboon tarantula is an East African species recorded from Kenya and Tanzania. Adult females have ash-gray front legs and very thick, darker hind legs; mature males are slimmer. The swollen lower segments of the fourth leg pair help distinguish females from related species. Experienced hobbyists provide a secure, ventilated enclosure with deep substrate, a retreat and drinking water. Avoid handling this quick spider. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
