European Green Toad
Bufotes viridis
This European toad is maintained by specialist amphibian hobbyists. Adults have irregular green patches on a pale background, often with small reddish warts. Keepers provide ground-level enclosures with substrate, hides, moist and drier areas, clean water and suitable invertebrate prey. Females lay strings of eggs in water, where the tadpoles develop. The green-toad group contains several distinct species, so older accounts of a very broad range should not be applied automatically to Bufotes viridis.
