European Tree Frog
Hyla arborea
This small European treefrog is kept by specialist amphibian hobbyists. Adults are often bright green, with a dark stripe running through the eye along the side, though their color can change. Keepers provide planted enclosures with climbing stems, sheltered retreats, ventilation, clean water and small insects. Females lay eggs in water, and the tadpoles develop in pools. Its climbing toe pads and smooth back distinguish it from the ground-dwelling European green toad.
