Extinct Roach
Simandoa conserfariam
The extinct roach is a Simandoa originally described from a cave in Guinea's Simandou range, where it lived in bat guano near the entrance. Unlike a specialized blind cave animal, it has developed eyes and wings. Specialist breeders maintain captive colonies with moist organic substrate, bark shelters, ventilation and varied food. Females retain their egg cases and release live young. Roomy housing helps reduce antenna damage among colony members.
