Metal
Metal fancy guppy is a hobby name for Poecilia reticulata lines with a reflective, metallic sheen on the head, body, or fins. The color may look silver, gunmetal, platinum, copper, blue-green, or dark steel depending on the background pigments and the breeding line. Metal is not one single standardized color across all clubs or sellers; it is often combined with lace, cobra, Moscow, dragon, or half-black traits. The effect is strongest in mature males, especially when light catches the side of the fish.
Because the metallic layer can hide or alter other colors, buyers should ask whether a metal guppy comes from a fixed strain or an assorted cross. Aquarium care is typical for fancy guppies, with stable warm water, a mature filter, and low aggression in the tank. Breeding programs usually select for an even shine that does not fade with age, along with normal body shape and fertility. Crossing metal fish to unrelated patterned guppies can produce interesting fry, but it may take several generations of selection to recover a consistent metallic look.
