Moscow
Moscow guppies are influential fancy guppy strains of Poecilia reticulata with dense, metallic color that can cover the head, body, and fins. The name comes from Russian and Eastern European breeding history rather than the birthplace of every fish sold today. Moscow blue is the classic form, but black, green, purple, and other Moscow-type lines are also kept. Mature males often show a dark reflective mask and saturated body color, giving them a heavier look than many patterned guppies. Females are less flashy but essential to line quality.
True Moscow lines can breed fairly predictably when kept closed, while casual outcrosses may produce fish labeled Moscow that lack the depth of color. Keepers should provide clean, stable water and avoid fin-nipping tankmates, as large-tailed males can be damaged easily. Breeding work centers on color intensity, body strength, fin proportion, and reliable females, not just the darkest young male in a batch. Buyers may want to ask about the line and the age of the fish, since some Moscow males deepen noticeably as they mature.
