Multicolor
Multicolor fancy guppies are Poecilia reticulata selected or described for having several distinct colors rather than one dominant hue. In everyday aquarium use, the term may mean a planned multicolor strain or simply assorted guppies showing red, blue, yellow, black, white, and iridescent patches. Some show systems use multicolor for fish whose fins display multiple clear colors without a single color taking over, but seller usage varies. The result can overlap with mosaic, cobra, snakeskin, and bicolor lines, especially in mixed hobby stock.
For a pet aquarium, multicolor guppies are managed like other fancy guppies: keep them in warm freshwater, choose peaceful companions, and expect frequent livebearing. Producing a repeatable multicolor line takes more work than pairing two bright fish, because fry may inherit unbalanced colors or plain bodies. Breeders select for color separation, healthy tails, and females from families that consistently produce attractive males. Buyers looking for show prospects should examine mature males rather than relying on a broad multicolor label, while casual keepers can choose active fish with clear eyes and undamaged fins.
