Solid
Solid is a descriptive class for fancy guppies bred to read as one dominant color rather than as patterned, bicolor, mosaic, or tuxedo fish. Solid red, solid blue, solid black, solid yellow, and solid white are common examples, but the label is visual rather than a guarantee of one simple gene. A strong solid guppy has color that carries through the body and fins with minimal spotting or patchiness; females commonly show less saturation than males.
The practical challenge with solid guppies is consistency. In a community tank they are as hardy and active as other fancy guppies, but a breeding project needs separate line tanks so off-color fry can be identified before they reproduce. Clean water, moderate hardness, and a varied diet help young fish develop full bodies and fins. Buyers seeking a stable strain should ask whether the parents produce mostly solid offspring, since some shop-labeled solid guppies come from mixed batches selected only by appearance.
