Unknown Variety
Unknown variety is used when a fancy guppy's strain, color line, or parentage is not known. Many pet-shop guppies, donated colony fish, rescue placements, and mixed home-bred fry fall into this category. They may show blue, red, cobra, dragon, albino, bicolor, or half-black traits, but the label does not promise that those traits are stable or that offspring will resemble the parents. It is simply an honest way to describe an unidentified guppy.
Unknown-variety guppies are best treated as normal Poecilia reticulata with uncertain background. Quarantine is sensible before adding them to an established aquarium, especially if they came from crowded retail systems or outdoor tubs. They are good choices for keepers who want active livebearers without a show-breeding goal, and they can add diversity to noncompetitive colonies. If breeding matters, separate sexes early and expect mixed fry; females that arrived with other males may already be carrying stored sperm.
