Yellow Fat Tail Scorpion
Androctonus australis
The yellow fat tail scorpion is a North African desert species with pale legs and pincers and an exceptionally thick, strongly ridged tail. The rear tail segments may be dark. It shelters beneath stones and in crevices in dry, sandy or rocky country. It belongs in specialist hands-off collections, in an escape-proof enclosure with dry substrate, shelter and water. Its venom is medically significant and stings can be life-threatening, so it must never be handled. Females give birth to live young.
