Feather Leg Baboon Tarantula
Stromatopelma calceatum
The feather leg baboon tarantula is an arboreal species from western and central Africa. Beige-gray adults have dark markings and fringed leg hairs that give the feet a feathery outline. It is kept by experienced hobbyists in secure, ventilated vertical enclosures with bark retreats and drinking water. This fast, defensive spider should not be handled: clinically documented bites can cause severe, prolonged muscle pain and cramps. Females lay eggs in a silk sac.
