Firefly Cockroach
Schultesia lampyridiformis
The firefly cockroach is a small species maintained by specialist breeders. Its color and shape resemble a firefly, and it is reported from bird nests in the wild. The name describes that resemblance rather than light production. Captive colonies need warmth, humid but well-ventilated air and loose, chunky substrate with a drier surface. Females retain their egg cases and release small litters of live young. Adults climb, so openings must be fine enough to contain these small roaches.
