Deathstalker Scorpion
Leiurus quinquestriatus
The deathstalker is a yellow North African scorpion with narrow pincers and a long, ridged tail, usually with a dark fifth tail segment. Egyptian populations are well documented; older broad use of the name also included other Leiurus species. It is a specialist display animal requiring an escape-proof dry enclosure, a shelter, diggable substrate and water.
Its medically significant venom can cause severe systemic illness, and it must never be handled. Females bear live young, carried on the mother's back at first.
