German Cockroach
Blattella germanica
The German cockroach is a small household pest maintained in research and specialist colonies. Adults are tan to brown with two dark lengthwise stripes on the head shield; males are slimmer than females. It lives closely with people worldwide and can establish rapidly indoors. Captive cultures require strict escape prevention, ventilated shelters, food and water. Females carry egg cases until close to hatching. Infestations contaminate food and can trigger allergic reactions.
