Giant Monkey Frog
Phyllomedusa bicolor
This large Amazonian leaf frog is bred by experienced amphibian hobbyists. Adults have a green back, pale belly and white-outlined side markings. Keepers provide tall, ventilated enclosures with sturdy branches, broad leaves, clean shallow water and supplemented insects. Seasonal changes help trigger breeding, so it is a demanding choice for a new keeper. Females lay eggs in folded leaves above water, and the hatched tadpoles fall into the pools below. Its large body needs generous climbing space.
