Aljabal Alakhdar
Aljabal Alakhdar, more commonly written Al Jabal Al Akhdar or Jabal Akhdar goat, is an Omani goat associated with the Al Hajar mountain range and the green mountain area of northern Oman. It is a local Capra hircus type valued mainly for meat and growth in rugged terrain, with milk used in household systems where does are kept. Compared with smaller coastal or desert goats, Jabal Akhdar animals are often described as larger framed and better suited to mountain village production, though appearance varies among herds.
These goats are usually managed in semi-intensive family systems, combining housing or night shelter with cut fodder, browse, crop residues, and supplemental feed when market kids or breeding bucks need extra growth. Heat remains a concern even in mountain districts, so shade, water access, and ventilation are practical necessities. Breeding choices tend to emphasize body size, kid survival, sound legs, and does that can raise twins under local feeding. Because Omani goat types may intergrade, source locality and herd performance records are more informative than the name alone.
