Australian Miniature
The Australian Miniature is a small domestic goat developed for companion, small-acreage, exhibition, and light utility roles in Australia. It is not the same thing as any small goat; breed programs usually emphasize reduced height, balanced proportions, friendly handling, and a wide range of colors. Many animals descend from mixed small goat backgrounds, so the important point is a consistent miniature type rather than a single old landrace origin.
Miniature goats still need proper livestock care. Secure fencing, shelter, hoof trimming, minerals, parasite control, and a diet that prevents obesity are all necessary, even when the goats are kept mainly as pets. Families should remember that bucks, wethers, and does have different management needs, and horns or rough play can be an issue around children. Breeders should select for sound structure, kidding ease, temperament, and health at a small size, not for tiny animals that lose durability.
