Benadir
Benadir, also spelled Banaadir or Benadiri in some sources, is a Somali goat landrace named for the coastal region around Mogadishu and southern Somalia. It belongs to the wider group of East African goats shaped by pastoral and market systems rather than by show-ring selection. Descriptions are not highly standardized, but Benadir goats are generally treated as hardy, small to medium animals kept for meat, household milk, and sale in dry lowland conditions.
Their value lies in coping with heat, walking to browse, and making use of thorn scrub and crop residues when better feed is scarce. Herds need shade, reliable water points, and protection for kids during the driest months; in wetter or more intensive settings, foot problems and internal parasites can become more important than in their native range. Because the name may be used loosely outside Somalia, anyone sourcing breeding animals should ask about the herd's regional background and production history.
