Chengde Polled
The Chengde Polled is a Chinese goat type associated with Chengde in Hebei and identified by the polled, or naturally hornless, trait. It is generally discussed as a local breed or breeding population rather than a common international goat. Polled status is a real management feature because hornless goats can be easier to house and handle, but it should be considered alongside body type, production purpose, coat, and local adaptation to northern Chinese conditions.
Breeding polled goats requires care, since the polled trait in goats can be linked with reproductive problems when managed without attention to pedigree and sex development. Herd managers should avoid selecting only for hornlessness and should track fertility, kidding results, and soundness. Chengde Polled goats still need ordinary goat management: shelter from severe winter weather, summer shade, mineral support, parasite control, and safe fencing. For conservation or improvement, source records matter because naturally hornless local goats can be confused with dehorned or mixed animals.
