Dutch Toggenburg
The Dutch Toggenburg, or Nederlandse Toggenburger, is a Netherlands dairy goat developed from local Dutch goats with strong influence from the Swiss Toggenburg. It is a medium-sized, wedge-shaped milking goat with upright ears and a practical farm build rather than a heavy meat type. Coats are usually fawn to chocolate brown with pale facial stripes, muzzle, lower-leg, and rump markings, though shade and exact pattern can vary by line.
Herds are managed much like other European dairy goats: dependable forage, clean water, a goat mineral, and a regular milking routine matter more than show finish. The breed suits small farms that want a traditional Dutch dairy goat, but buyers should check whether animals are registered Dutch Toggenburgs or Toggenburg-type crosses. Good fencing, dry shelter in wet weather, hoof care, and health testing in milking herds help protect both production and longevity.
