Göingeget
The Göingeget is a Swedish landrace goat from the Göinge district of Skåne in southern Sweden. It belongs to the old allmoge, or native farm-animal, tradition rather than to an international dairy show standard. Small to medium in size, hardy, alert, and often horned, these goats were kept for household milk, meat, hides, and browsing around mixed farms. Coat color is variable, which is typical of a landrace maintained for usefulness and local adaptation.
Most Göingeget herds today are small conservation flocks, so breeding choices should protect family lines and avoid unrecorded crossing with modern dairy goats. They manage Nordic weather well when given a dry, draft-free shelter, winter hay, and branches or browse to satisfy natural feeding behavior. Secure fencing is important, as active landrace goats can be agile escape artists. Buyers outside Sweden may find them difficult to obtain, and serious keepers usually work through native-breed networks or gene-bank style programs.
