Haimen
The Haimen goat is a regional Chinese goat type linked with Haimen and the lower Yangtze area, where small livestock have long been folded into dense mixed-farming systems. It is usually understood as a practical meat or household goat rather than a highly standardized international dairy breed. Animals may be selected for fertility, manageable size, and the ability to use crop byproducts, roadside forage, and small pasture spaces.
In human care, Haimen goats need management suited to humid lowland conditions: dry sleeping areas, clean feed, careful parasite control, and protection of kids during damp or cold spells. Their usefulness depends on steady reproduction, thriftiness, and good market weight more than dramatic breed appearance. Breeders should document the locality and flock source when possible, because regional Chinese goat names can be specific to a county, production system, or conservation inventory.
