Jamnapari
The Jamnapari, also spelled Jamunapari, is a large Indian goat from the Yamuna or Jamuna river region of Uttar Pradesh, especially the Etawah and Chambal ravine country. It is one of South Asia's best-known dual-purpose breeds, used for milk as well as meat and for improving local goats. Tall legs, a strongly convex Roman nose, long pendulous ears, and a mostly white coat with tan or brown markings are classic breed features.
Jamnapari goats do best where their size and production are supported by good browse, dry footing, and enough concentrate or quality fodder during lactation and growth. They are adapted to hot conditions but can suffer when kept in damp, crowded housing, where long ears and feet need attention. Because the name is sometimes applied loosely to tall goats with drooping ears, buyers should look for animals from known Jamnapari lines and evaluate udders, bite, legs, and kidding history, not appearance alone.
