Jining Grey
The Jining Grey goat is a Chinese indigenous breed from the Jining area of southwestern Shandong. Also connected with the term Jining Qing goat, it has a blue-grey to dark coat and produces kids whose pelts may show tight curl patterns shortly after birth. The breed is also valued for meat and for the prolificacy of its does, a trait that made it useful in intensive village farming.
Traditional flocks use crop residues, weeds, and small grazing areas in the North China Plain, so efficient reproduction and easy keeping have been central to selection. Where the breed is maintained today, managers may balance meat production, kid survival, and any local pelt market with conservation of the original Shandong type. Replacement females should be chosen for mothering, udder soundness, and the ability to raise multiple kids rather than color alone.
