Pridonskaya
Pridonskaya, also written Pri-Don or Don goat in some English sources, is a Russian fiber breed associated with the Don River steppe. It was developed from local goats selected for a dense, fine undercoat beneath longer guard hair, making it useful for down as well as meat and modest household milk. Animals are generally medium sized, hardy, and plain colored, with dark gray, black, brown, and lighter coats reported in different lines.
On farms, Pridonskaya goats are managed less like dairy specialists and more like seasonal fiber livestock. The valuable down is usually combed or shorn during the spring molt, then sorted to separate the soft underfiber from guard hair. Nutrition through winter affects fleece yield, so does need enough roughage, minerals, and shelter from wet wind even though the breed tolerates cold, dry range conditions. Outside its region, stock may be hard to verify; buyers should look for clear documentation of origin and fiber quality rather than relying on the name alone.
