Red Boer
Red Boer goats are a red-coated variety or line within the Boer meat goat population, not a separate species from the South African Boer goat. They share the Boer profile: a muscular body, heavy bone, convex face, pendulous ears, and selection for fast-growing market kids. Instead of the familiar white body with a red head, red Boers may be solid red or strongly red patterned, with shade and white markings handled differently by breed associations and show rules.
On farms they are managed for meat production, breeding stock, and show prospects. Strong growth still depends on pasture quality, parasite control, trace minerals, and enough feed for lactating does, especially in humid areas where Boers can struggle if selected only for looks. Buyers should judge structure, feet, bite, udder and teat quality, and dam performance alongside color. They are sometimes confused with Kalahari Red goats, so ancestry and documentation matter; a red coat does not replace soundness, kidding ability, or adaptation to the farm's climate.
