Surati
Surati, also spelled Surti, is a small to medium Indian dairy goat from Gujarat, especially the Surat and Vadodara areas, with related populations in western India. It is commonly white or cream, short-legged, and compact, with drooping ears and backward-curving horns. Surati goats can give useful quantities of milk relative to their size when managed carefully, while surplus kids also contribute to meat production. Their manageable body size made them suitable for town-edge dairies and household goat keeping.
Compared with long-ranging desert goats, Surati goats are often better in stall-fed or semi-intensive systems where forage can be cut and carried. Clean milking routines, shade, ventilation, and dry bedding are important in hot or monsoon-prone areas. A good ration includes roughage plus enough concentrate or legume forage for lactating does. When choosing breeding stock, udder shape, teat placement, feet, fertility, and milk history are more meaningful than a plain white coat alone.
