Golden Red Rump Tarantula
Brachypelma albiceps
The golden red rump tarantula is a Mexican ground-dwelling species with a blond carapace, black legs and a red-haired abdomen. Adults lack the orange knee patches of Mexican red knees. Captive-bred animals are kept by tarantula hobbyists in low, secure enclosures with a hide, diggable substrate and a water dish.
Keep individuals separately and avoid handling, as falls can injure them and defensive hairs can irritate skin and eyes. Females lay eggs in a silk sac. International trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
