Brecon Buff Goose
The Brecon Buff goose is a Welsh domestic goose breed developed in Breconshire in the early twentieth century, selected for warm buff plumage. It is a medium to heavy table goose with a broad body, clean head, pink bill and legs, and even apricot-buff feathering rather than gray or white. The breed was created from buff-colored stock and remains one of the familiar British heritage geese.
It is kept by heritage poultry breeders, smallholders, and show exhibitors for utility and color rather than maximum industrial growth. Brecon Buffs need plenty of grass, a dry predator-safe house at night, clean bathing water, and room to move during the breeding season. Breeders select strongly for clear buff color, correct bill and leg pigment, fertility, and gosling vigor; birds that fade toward white or show gray markings are less desirable for exhibition or pedigree breeding. Calmness still depends on line and handling, especially with protective ganders in spring.
