German Laying Goose
The German Laying Goose is a utility goose type selected with egg production in mind, rather than only body weight. Compared with very heavy meat breeds, laying-focused geese are generally kept more active and moderate so females can produce and breed well through the season. The label may cover lines developed in German poultry systems for reliable seasonal eggs, hatchability, and farm practicality.
Management should support reproduction without pushing birds into excessive fat. Breeding geese need grazing, bathing water for mating behavior, balanced feed, calcium access, and quiet nest areas. Flock managers should track egg numbers, fertility, hatch rate, gosling vigor, and how long females remain productive. Buyers should ask whether birds are from a true laying line or simply ordinary domestic geese advertised for eggs, because the difference matters for expectations.
