Gorki Goose
The Gorki goose is a Russian domestic breed associated with the Gorky region, now Nizhny Novgorod. It was developed as a utility goose for meat, eggs, and farm production, drawing on regional breeding programs that often combined local geese with heavier or more productive types. Birds are commonly described as solid, practical geese suited to small and state-farm style production systems.
Gorki geese need pasture, water, secure housing, and feed management that maintains breeding condition without excess weight. They can be useful where owners want gosling growth and seasonal eggs from a hardy flock. Selection should focus on fertility, hatchability, survival in local weather, and sound legs. Outside Russia and neighboring regions, buyers should confirm the line carefully, because transliterated breed names and similar white utility geese can be confused.
