Kielce Landrace
Kielce landrace, or Kielecka goose in Polish references, is a native domestic goose population associated with the Kielce region of south-central Poland. It belongs to the broader group of Polish regional geese preserved alongside other local strains such as Kartuzy, Lublin, and Podkarpacka types. The birds are generally treated as utility geese rather than ornamental geese, with selection historically based on grazing, seasonal egg production, broodiness, and manageable body size for small farms.
For keepers, the Kielce landrace is most meaningful when its origin and breeding history are known. Conservation flocks should keep pairs or family groups traceable and avoid mixing them with commercial meat geese, even if the birds look similar. Care follows practical goose husbandry: grass or leafy forage during the growing season, some grain when laying or finishing, clean water, and a simple dry shelter. The landrace's value lies in maintaining a regional gene pool, not in producing the fastest-growing market bird.
