Kuban Goose

Kuban Goose

The Kuban goose is a Russian breed from the Kuban region, developed as a productive, relatively light goose with good egg output. It often shows grey-brown coloring with a darker stripe along the neck and a knob influenced by Chinese goose ancestry. Compared with very heavy meat breeds, Kubans are active, alert, and useful where seasonal eggs and efficient grazing matter.

Kuban geese need space to move, water for bathing and breeding, secure housing, and feed that supports laying without making birds too heavy. Their alert nature can be useful on a farm, but handling should stay calm so they do not become overly defensive. Breeders should select for egg numbers, fertility, hatchability, gosling vigor, correct body type, and manageable temperament. Clear line records are helpful because Kubans can be confused with other knobbed grey geese.
