Landes Goose
The Landes goose is a French domestic goose associated with the Landes region of southwestern France. It is usually a grey utility goose with a strong connection to meat and traditional fattening systems, including lines used in foie gras production where that practice is legal. Beyond that specialized use, it remains a pasture-based farm goose with regional identity and solid body capacity.
Landes geese need grass, bathing water, shade in warm weather, and housing that keeps breeding stock safe and dry. Owners keeping them for ordinary meat or breeding should manage body condition carefully, because excessive weight can reduce fertility and leg soundness. Any force-feeding or liver-production context must follow local law and welfare standards. Breeders should track growth, reproduction, survivability, and source line, since production lines and heritage-type birds may not be identical.
