Mongolian Local Geese
Mongolian local geese are domestic geese kept as regional farm stock in Mongolia, where poultry are a small part of a livestock culture better associated with grazing mammals. They are not a single show-standard breed in the international sense, and flock appearance may vary from gray or brown to white, pied, or saddleback patterns. The type is usually valued for toughness, foraging ability, and the capacity to fit into household or small farm systems in a strongly seasonal climate.
Management in Mongolia and similar climates centers on wind protection, dry bedding, unfrozen drinking water, and enough winter feed when pasture is unavailable. During the growing season, geese can make good use of grass, vegetable plots, and grain screenings, but goslings still need shelter from cold rain and predators. People maintaining Mongolian local stock should document where birds came from and avoid unnecessary crossing if the goal is to conserve a regional landrace rather than create a general mixed flock.
